Police Investigate the Rape of a 14 Year-Old Girl

Joseph Myvett

In Camalote Village, Cayo District, there are varying versions of a report of the sexual assault of a fourteen-year-old female minor. Police say that while a medical exam conducted on the minor has revealed that she was carnally known, the circumstances under which she claims she was raped are not too certain. The minor claims that shortly after seven p.m. on February twenty-first, she went to the house of a watchman in the village. She claims she was followed by a Hispanic man who forced her into the house and raped her. ACP Joseph Myvett says that police are investigating.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“During the investigation, we have found out that there are several versions to the story. That male person was detained and later released while the investigation is ongoing. A medical examination was done in respect to the investigation.”

“Sir, so will anyone be charged in reference to that?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this point in time, the investigation will still have to persist for a little while more based on the varying accounts that have been given to the police.  As this investigation, specifically this one progresses, there may be charges if we are able to determine certain things based on the fact that she is a fourteen year old minor and would not have been able to give consent. So that is why I am saying that the investigation needs to go its course and then from there a determination will be made.”
