A fatal accident in the south claimed two lives on Saturday morning just after six. Police say that Jose Cal, the driver of the pickup truck, may have fallen asleep which caused him to lose control of the truck, which overturned. The two passengers in the pan of the truck, forty-eight-year-old Pashal Teul and twenty-four-year-old Erlina Teul Cal were thrown out upon impact. They suffered various degrees of injuries and died. “Police were called to an area on the southern highway between miles seventy-one and seventy-two, where they observed a green Ford Ranger pickup on its side on the highway, which seemingly was northbound. They spoke with Jose Cal, the driver on the scene, and he reported to police that he and several family members, including Pashal Teul and Erlina Cal, the wife of Jose Cal, were also travelling with him in the pan of the pickup and somewhere between miles seventy-one and seventy-two, he lost control of the truck which caused the vehicle to be tilted on its side and as a result, those persons in the pan were flung from the vehicle where Teul died at the scene and Cal was taken to the PG Community Hospital and died while receiving treatment. Mr. Cal was detained pending this investigation. Statements were recorded and submitted to the office of the DPP for her direction. He was served with an NIP, pending the outcome of investigation.”
