“In week one, we covered the soft-skills, giving inter-personal skills enhancement which helps participants to identify where their strengths and weaknesses lie. The second week touches mostly customer service in a techie aspect. We had our participants take four to five days computer basics course because it coincides with the topic or the field that we are venturing off in to. The third week, we went totally practical, meaning we covered all information of what is expected of an administrative assistant; roles and responsibilities , meaning getting the understanding that being a secretary is a universal post. It is an entry level one but nonetheless one that if you excel, it can boost you and you can land in any arena of the work environment, as well.”

Several of participants are employed, while some are now looking for jobs. Two of the trainees share their experiences in the training course and how they plan to put their new skills to use.

“I am not employed as yet but I am looking for a job. Because of this training, it is easier to use what we learnt here for my future job. This is not the first time I am doing training with BTEC. I have done many more before this but one more certificate to it improves skills that I need. So, I saw this ad on facebook and I decided to take it. I enjoyed the I.T part because of excel and word.”

Melanie Mason, Trainee

“It was an enhancement to my skills. I have expanded my knowledge over here. It is just exciting and I am so emotional about it. We saw great team work with the trainees and instructors. They taught us a lot of stuff.  The certificate is for future references for jobs.”

“I am excited to say that among all the other participants who have gone through BTEC, this group, I must say, they are very talented and this morning they had a presentation skills final that they had to do. I was blown away. Coming from different walks of life, these individuals put their best foot forward and it was real evident to see where they were trying to implement what they were learning. What I saw projected through-out the three weeks, I saw many hungry individuals, in a manner that they are looking for that wisdom and knowledge. And, perhaps, just the direction and for a lot of them they just need an opportunity. Professionalism is something they have been practicing here and I have been encouraging and motivating them that it is something that is universal in any work arena. Once they find that path and stick to it, they will be successful in any work that they find.”
