Suspected Drug Plane Lands in Monkey River Area

A suspected drug plane landed in the Monkey River area sometime late Wednesday night and early this morning. By the time authorities arrived on the scene, the passengers were gone and they found the torch remnants of the aircraft. A photo sent to News Five, believed to be from the scene of the landing, shows a cache of ammunition that was discovered at the landing site. This morning, the police department informed reporters that they didn’t have any information to share at that time, but that they would provide details via a press release. Up to news time, we haven’t received that release.  This is the second aircraft to have landed in the south in less than two weeks and the third since the start of the year. Just last week, we reported on the burnt remains of a twin-engine aircraft discovered in the area of Payne’s Creek, a remote location in the Toledo District. It landed on a crude runway that appeared to have been recently created.
