U.D.P. Chairman Says Media Invited for Counting of Ballots

According to August, at the conclusion of the vote, the media will be invited to witness the counting of ballots, as well as the party leader’s address and the leader-elect’s statement.  Those presentations are critical to document, but in these days of instant communication, our viewers and social media followers will be limited to the information building up to that conclusion.

On the Phone: Alberto August, Chairman, United Democratic Party

“After the votes have been cast then of course the council agreed that then the media will be invited into the station to witness the other events of our national convention.”

Isani Cayetano

“Speak to me about the actual parameters, we’re looking at the Belize City Center and of course that’s where the convention will be held, but will we be allowed to video them, both contestants as they enter, as well as the persons or the supporters who are coming out on Sunday?”

On the Phone: Alberto August

“Nothing has changed from the access that the media has had in any of our conventions, nothing has changed.  Basically, the media can come in and the media can interact with the public but in this case the public and the voters will be in one confined location.  We know that yes, the media has always done this and they have always interviewed the persons who are participating in the convention.  So, for this purpose, like I’ve said, you guys will be coming in, the media will be invited into the station as soon as the ballots have been cast and then the counting process is in place.  After the counting we will announce the results of the election, the results of the election will be announced and then afterwards the media will have access to interviews.  Of course, immediately after the results have been announced the new leadership of the party will be sworn in, the new party leader will be delivering his inaugural address and then the convention will be declared closed by the new chairman of the party.”
