Police Detain One for La Popular Robbery; Looking for Another

Police have detained one person and looking for another in connection with the robbery of La Popular Bakery on Cemetery Road in Belize City. Just before eight on Tuesday night, two armed men held up the cashier and demanded money.  Superintendent Alejandro Cowo says that while they have detained one person, the stolen money wasn’t recovered.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Eastern Division

“Police responded to a robbery report at La Popular Bakery, located on George Price Highway. There they spoke with one of the workers who informed the police that while they were inside the business establishment, two male persons entered inside the business, armed with a firearm and pointed it at one of the cashiers and demanded them to hand over proceeds of that day. As a result, they handed over an undisclosed amount of money and the two male persons made good their escape.”

“Upon review of the surveillance, do police know who the perpetrators are?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Police have detained a male person and are looking for another one. Yes, the identity of one of them has been established by police and that is the one that is in custody.”

“Any success in recovering the stolen money?”

Supt. Alejandro Cowo

“Not at this moment.”
