Coronavirus Confirmed in Taiwan; G.O.B. Issues Statement of Support

Late this evening, the government issued a statement in support of one of its strongest allies.  It involves the novel coronavirus, which has been detected in Taiwan.  The statement says that a small number of cases have been confirmed in Taiwan by its Center for Disease Control.  It states that Taiwan’s proximity to China where the virus was first detected warrants their full involvement in international consultations at the World Health Organization, where Taiwan has been excluded as a member despite its population of twenty-three million. It recognizes Taiwan’s experience in global infectious diseases, which can benefit the entire region and their voice and participation at W.H.O. must, therefore, be guaranteed. Government also applauds the measures taken by Taiwan to support prevention and says it will continue to work with Taiwan to safeguard the interest and welfare for the people and will continue to advocate for a voice and vote at the W.H.O. at the upcoming World Health Assembly.
