U.B. & M.O.E. Host Educational Expo

The University of Belize and Ministry of Education held the Belize Tertiary Options and Opportunities Education Expo, formerly known as the COBEC Fair, in Belmopan today. The UB and COBEC University partners set up educational displays and booths for students to learn more about tertiary education offerings. The exhibiting universities and partners shared information about academic programmes, fees, financial aid, student exchanges, application process and other university experience offerings. Here’s a snippet from today’s programme.

Lisa Rocke

Lisa Rocke, Senior Admin Asst., UWI Open Campus (Belize)

“UWI is a regional university. It is our university. Secondly, we are accredited so when you get a UWI degree or certificate, you can take this anywhere in the world because we are an accredited university. As well, you are within the region, so if a student decides to do their degree with UWI and come and work in Belize for a while but they want exposure then they have the CSME. They can actually get up and move to another country in the region and they can access employment and so that is exciting. Another thing I always tell students is if they want to be exposed to a new culture, they can do a year online and then do residential where they can experience one of the islands  where our main campuses are.”

Orisa Molina

Orisa Molina, Representative, United World Colleges

“It is an awesome group around the world; eighteen colleges around the world that take students right out of fourth form and they get to go and study in one of those eighteen countries around the world. Depending on what scholarships we get offered that year, they get to go straight out of fourth form. The UWC opens its applications every year, November to December, so students who are in third form right now have an opportunity to study for this year’s scholarships because November 2020 a new set of scholarships will be offered. We already awarded three scholarships this year who are going away to study; one to India; China and the other to Wales in the UK.”
