N.T.U.C.B. President Says Despite its Position, It Must Act Responsibly

Marvin Mora

While the N.T.U.C.B. has given government until the end of the month to prove itself, the congress says it is equally mindful of the adverse effects that its actions may have on the citizenry should it decide to call a shutdown.  It is why, according to Mora, it has embarked on an advocacy campaign to compel government to address the issue.

Marvin Mora, President, N.T.U.C.B.

“We have to keep in mind, like I explained from the beginning of this presentation, of the repercussions of what the N.T.U.C.B. can do, not only to the Government of Belize, but the effects that it will have and the negative impacts that it will have on our countrymen.  For that reason, we have to act responsibly; first, by advocating what our position is which is what we are doing here today.  We are here simply because we don’t feel that the process is moving.  If you notice the timelines that were provided by the brother in his presentation are showing us that we are really lagging behind in the process.  By now we should already have seen most of the things that have been articulated within the executive summary which are very clear and straightforward.  If you take some time to read the executive summary, pinpoint exactly what it is that is being recommended for the Government of Belize to implement, you will realize that there is absolutely nothing that is stopping the Government of Belize from proceeding with the implementation of those recommendations in the first instance.  Because of that then, the N.T.U.C.B. has started this process of advocating, but at the same time we are insisting upon the Government of Belize and those people who are in the positions that can continue with the process to do so.”
