Man Charged Three Years Later for Double Fatal RTA

Joseph Myvett

An Orange Walk man has been charged for a double fatal RTA that happened over three years ago. According to police, Martin Ramos was arrested and charged with two counts of causing death by careless conduct. The charges stem from an accident that happened in October 2016 along the August Pine Ridge and San Felipe Roads.  Ramos was reportedly driving his Ford pickup truck when he crashed into the motorcycle carrying the two men.  ACP Joseph Myvett gives us the details.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“The arrest of forty-five-year-old Martin Ramos for two counts of causing death by careless conduct. He was arrested in Orange Walk for an accident that had happened on the seventh of October, 2016, on the Orange Walk –San Antonio Road where he was west bound when he collided into twenty-five-year-old Abraham Diaz and his passenger on the motorcycle, Antonio Solis. They both lost their lives and as a consequence an investigation was carried out and he was later arrested and charged over the weekend based on the direction from the D.P.P.”

“Sir, are you able to tell us why the long delay in bringing charges from 2016 up to now?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“There were a number of work that had to have been done so the file was sent to the D.P.P. and sent back for further directives which were eventually carried out before she made that decision.”
