A Crime Fighting Strategy for the West

Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal

Forming part of today’s tour was Operations Commander, Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal. Vidal spoke to the leaders of representatives of the communities to get a better feel of things and what sort of crime-fighting strategy would be best rolled out. Vidal says the strategy is comprised of three factors: intelligence gathering, patrol and community involvement.

Sr. Supt. Marco Vidal, Commander of Operations

“We have coordinating pretty much from the inception with the National Police of Guatemala. We intend to go further than that. We would intend to go to the Ministerio Publico which would be the head officer in Peten to get other more investigation answers from their end and do certain things that we want to get down from their side in terms of recovery of the vehicle. We k now that one of the vehicles has been sighted in that area. We know that the trend shows everything going to the Arenal Area. So our strategy then moves to the operational aspects which are the patrol strategy. What we will be doing for the community as the Commissioner has already indicated that there will be additional support to Succotz Village in terms of personnel. They will be responsible for the patrol of the immediate area of Succotz Village. Our efforts will be bolstered with the BDF. So we are looking at the BDF extending its operations along with the Police to cover the outskirts of Succotz because we do have other areas that need to be covered. We visited an area so that is one of the areas that we are looking at in addition to extending the operations further.”
