Cpl Darrel Usher Withdraws Challenge to Transfer

Well-known Corporal Darrel “Tutsi” Usher, of Belize City, has withdrawn his challenge regarding his transfer. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams directed the transfer of Usher from the Hattieville sub-station to the Stann Creek Police Formation with effect from October third this year. Usher sought the legal services of Attorney Anthony Sylvestre, who presented the case before the courts earlier this week. But now Williams says that the controversial cop withdrew his challenge because he had no chance of it being successful.

“I guess you have been told that he has withdrawn the matter. Again, as the Commissioner of Police I know that I have to make tough decisions. So long as I know that the decisions I am making are within the confines of the law I fear no one who wants to take me to court. They Police Act is clear. The constitution is clear that the Commissioner of Police has full superintendence of the police department and the Police Act gives me full authority to transfer police officer where I believe it is reasonable. All I need to ensure is that when I exercise the powers given to be by the Police Act that I ensure reasonably and I try my best that I can to be reasonable when dealing with my officers. So Mr. Usher has been in Belize City in the Belize District almost his entire career so to transfer him to Dangriga after being in Belize City for more than fifteen, sixteen years that is more than reasonable. So at the end they went to court and they withdrew the matter. I guess they saw they had no chance of winning it and so they withdrew.”
