Brandon Anderson and teenager are freed of the murder of Canadian filmmaker
The Belmopan Supreme Court recently freed two men who had been charged with the murder of Canadian Matthiew Klinch. The filmmaker was stabbed to death in January 2016 outside his house in Selena, Cayo District. Twenty-two year old Brandon Anderson, and a minor were charged with his murder and conspiracy to commit murder; both were released in the courtroom of Justice Antoinette Moore. Klinch’s family has reacted to the outcome of the case saying there’s no justice. Klinch’s mother, Louise Dallaire, told Radio-Canada in French. ”It brought me back to the same place I was in four years ago. All the emotions came back. Klinch’s cousin, Jean-Sébastien Dallaire, also commented saying “When my cousin was murdered, my uncle and aunt went [to Belize]. When they came back it was obvious that corruption is a big problem over there. The police can’t be trusted. The authorities, there’s no way you can trust anybody.” Anderson was defended by attorney, Bryan Neal. The judge threw out several pieces of key evidence, including a confession from Anderson. Banner argued that police had obtained the confession illegally.
