Recinos’ Employees Claim to have Been Robbed

ACP Joseph Myvett

The tables have turned for two men, twenty-seven-year-old Wilmer Polanco and twenty-seven-year-old Manual Sacul, who alleged they were held at gunpoint and robbed on Saturday night. The employees of Recinos’ Imports told Roaring Creek police that at around ten o’clock they were in the company’s white freight liner truck traveling from Belize City to the Cayo District when they were ordered to stop by three men inside a grey Ford Escape. The employees claimed they complied and were supposedly robbed of an undisclosed amount of money. But after police conducted interviews, investigators say the account of the men did not add up. As a result, the duo is in police custody while investigators work to establish what exactly occurred.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“When upon reaching Cotton Tree Village they were approached by three dark complexion male persons in a dark colored Ford Escape who signaled them or motion them to drive towards the area of the Never Delay Road where they were then accosted and taken out of the vehicle and an undisclosed amount of money was robbed from them. Thereafter they were locked at the back of the truck. The later freed themselves and proceeded to Roaring Creek police station where they made a report. Based on the report given by them and the investigation conducted by police, those persons are detained as the report given by them is not consistent as to what was found by the police so they are detained pending investigation into this matter.”

“So sir it was some sort of inside job?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well that is what we are trying to determine at this point.”
