Stella Maris School – the Future is Accessible

Felicia Garbutt

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Education held a workshop with teachers and other stakeholders about the roles they play in the education system and working with students with diverse abilities. Felicia Garbutt spoke about the work that Stella Maris does with its students.

“Over at Stella Maris we do wonderful things. Our principal implemented some skills programmes; woodwork, sewing, food prep and I can speak for the sewing skills. We have students that really can accomplish many things. We had Justice Young who sent for some items and we sent over towel holders, paper napkin holders made out of wood. We sent over placemats, we sent over table runners and different items that the students sew. And the general public buy the stuff that we make. So it is just to show that our students can accomplish or achieve anything that is set to them with a slower pace, but they get the job done.”
