Story Picture
The Dr. Marla Holder Award is an honour given every year by the Belize Business Bureau to a woman who has made a significant contribution to women’s development. This year it has been bestowed upon Jane Usher. The popular head of the Holy Redeemer Credit Union has been elected to the House of Representatives twice by the people of the Pickstock Division and served as President of the senate. The list of achievements goes on and this afternoon News 5 found out her greatest accomplishment at a reception held in her honour.

Jane Usher, Recipient, Dr. Marla Holder Award

” You really want to know the major things I’ve done in my life? I have been a wife for fifty-six years and I have ten children. That’s my greatest achievement.”

Jose Sanchez

“Business accomplishments?”

Jane Usher

“I’ve worked several places. I’ve worked in government and now I’ve dedicated all my life, the rest of my life, to the spread of the credit union movement in the country.”

Jose Sanchez

“How do you feel about receiving this award today?”

Jane Usher

“I’m very proud of it. I didn’t expect it, but I feel proud, very proud.”

Usher, though eighty-four years old, says she plans to continue her work at HRCU for as long as she can.
