Father of 1 is Executed in Corozal

Shaquille Michael Philips

The third murder victim for the weekend was Shaquille Michael Philips of Corozal Town.  After midnight on Sunday, Phillips was gunned down as he sat on the verandah of his family’s house. He was with his father who has just stepped inside to retire for the night when the twenty-year-old came under fire. His wife and son were asleep inside the house when Phillips was reportedly shot as many as eight times and expired on the spot.  Dalila Ical and Duane Moody file the following report.

A glass of water and a burning candle, a tradition to pay tribute to a life passed and for remembrance, have been set at the foot of the sofa where Shaquille Michael Phillips was sitting when he was ambushed and killed on Sunday night. It was past midnight; Shaquille was outside on the verandah having some drinks with his father, Allison Phillips, at their family home. In an off camera interview, the elder Phillips said he decided to retire for the night. It was then that the gunman made his move.

“Bout eight.”

Bullet holes are visible on the wall just behind the red sofa. The twenty-year-old appears to have had little to no chance for escape. The family says they did not see anyone and are still trying to understand why Shaquille was executed in cold blood.
