An Elderly Woman is Assaulted in a Home Invasion in Belama

There were several burglaries reported in the Belama area over the past twenty-four hours, but on Tuesday afternoon around 1:15, an elderly woman was assaulted during a home invasion on Samuel Haynes Street in the Belama Phase One area of Belize City. Sandhill villager Alma Rodriguez told police that around midday, while babysitting a two-year-old, two dark-complexion men, who appeared to be wet entered through the back door. One of the men carried a firearm and forced Rodriguez into one of the bedrooms. He robbed her of her earrings before tying up her hands and feet. The burglars then proceeded to ransack the house. A short while after, she heard the gate to the yard opening and the men escaped.  Rodriguez says she managed to get her legs untied and made her way to the front window where she saw her neighbour and shouted for help; the neighbour untied her hands. The homeowner was called to the house and checks revealed that two piggy banks were emptied, an assorted amount of beaded jewellery were stolen and an Atlantic Bank token chip. Police are investigating this latest aggravated burglary.
