Wendy Benavides

According to the S.I.B., while the labor force grew at a faster rate than which jobs were being created, there was an increase of women in the labour force.  Benavides explains that this is a record growth in recent years.

Wendy Benavides, Statistician II, S.I.B.

“The number of females in the labour force has increased significantly. Since September 2012, more than fifty percent of females, age fourteen years and older surpassed the participation rate of about thirty-five percent since the 1990’s. Since the April 2019 round of the LFS, the participation of females in the labour force increased by 5.8 percentage points; a change that had not been seen in previous years, nevertheless males continue to outnumber the females in the labour force but with a decline share.   About ninety-two percent of adult males were in the labour force compared to sixty-six percent of adult females. The increase in participation levels of women in the labour force has impacted the shares of males in the labour force with men now accounting for about fifty-eight percent compared to sixty-percent in previous rounds of the survey.”
