Jose Rodriguez is Spared Jail Time

Jose Rodriguez

Jose Rodriguez luckily spared jail time when he appeared before Justice Colin Williams this morning for sentencing.  Last Wednesday, Rodriguez pleaded guilty to “Causing Death by Careless Conduct” in the fatal traffic accident, which claimed the life of eleven-year-old Tezzrah Thompson.  Initially, Rodriguez was charged with “Manslaughter by Negligence,” but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.  Rodriguez was ordered to pay three thousand dollars and given six months to pay the fine or face six months imprisonment if he fails to do so. Rodriguez was being represented by attorney Nazira Myles while Crown Counsel Riis Cattouse prosecuted the case.  On October fifth, 2015, Thompson was knocked down and killed by a pick-up truck driven by Rodriguez while crossing the George Price Highway after exiting a bus. Thompson was a student of St. Matthews Government School and was returning to her home in Mahogany Heights when the incident occurred.
