B.P.D. Receives Transportation Donation from Taiwanese Government

Today, Taiwanese Ambassador Remus Li-Kuo Chen gifted the Belize Police Department a brand new coaster.  A short ceremony was held for a symbolic handing over, as the coaster bus will be in country until another couple weeks. A similar thirty-two-seater will also be handed over early next year.  The buses will be used to transport police officers who commute from the north and west into the city.  This will be offered at a discounted rate for the cops. The buses are valued at over two-hundred-and-fifty thousand dollars. Here’s more from today’s programme.

“So, we are here today on behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of China (Taiwan), I have the pleasure to make this contribution for this very meaningful purpose. This cooperation will enable the police department to obtain a coaster bus as safe and reliable transportation vehicle of personnel and therefore, improve the proficiency and personnel morale of the Police Department.”

“About a month ago, we submitted the proposal and within a week’s time, I was informed that the proposal was approved for one at the end of this year and the other by early next year. So, that has brought us to where we are today that we have the official handing over of the finance for one such bus. The buses that we are getting will be the coaster buses from Belize Diesel. We are hoping to get the first one in country by the end of December this year and then we will get the next one. We do know that the government provides housing allowance to assist in renting where they work, but some of them chose to live out district for good reason at times. So, it is very disheartening for me to …the police officers on the streets at nights flogging down transportation to get home. So, we will have a transportation dedicated to getting home our officers safe at night. That, for me, is a good morale booster for our officers.”
