G.O.B. Fixes LPG Prices

The government has moved to establish fix prices for the sale of Liquefied Petroleum Gas known as L.P.G. beginning this Saturday.  The fixed prices are to prevent predatory pricing by major importers who are said to have engaged in an act of driving prices down below the maximum ceiling for retail and wholesale of L.P.G.  The fix is temporary but the government says it is critical to keep local operators of L.P.G. in business.  Earlier this year, an agreement between the government and shareholders of the National Gas Company was signed to formalize the industry.  Following the passage of the legislation, representatives from three butane companies namely Belize Western Energy Limited, Gas Tomza, and Southern Choice Butane (Zeta Gas) met with Prime Minister Dean Barrow to discuss their discontent with the new company because they say they have invested millions of dollars in the industry.  Prime Minister Dean Barrow counters them saying that the National Gas Company will be providing high-quality butane at the cheapest price to Belizeans.
