Belize Jaguars Heads to Grenada

And less than twenty-four hours after that win, today the Belize Jaguars hopped on a flight to travel to Grenada. The team will spend the overnight in Miami and arrive in Grenada on Saturday. There they will face off with Grenada’s national team on Sunday in the CONCACAF Nations League tournament. Here’s what the Belize Jaguars spoke with us about that upcoming match.

Vincenzo Alberto Annese

Vincenzo Alberto Annese, Coach, Belize National ‘A’ Team

“Just yesterday we played ninety minutes and we know that in this kind of competition, the second match will be very hard to play and so I will adapt it so that my players have ninety-minutes. We select the new players. We also put in Desmond who is twenty-one years old and so we had young players and some of the veterans on the defensive line because I believe the experience on the defense line is needed in this important competition.   We prepare the game from tomorrow, mentality, because this team Grenada they get only two goals. They are a very quality team. They have played many years together so the defensive line is very compact. They play with this 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 and they have switched the coach. So, we are trying to make it the best result to go forward in this competition.”

Andrea Polanco

“Do you expect it to be an intense game?”

Ian Lewis

Ian Lewis, Midfielder/Goal Scorer

“Of course, yes, because that is their home field and to beat someone on the home field is very tough. But we are well focused and we are looking forward to a win.”

Andrea Polanco

“What do you think team Belize will need to do to win that game?”

Ian Lewis

“Like the game we had yesterday, just have an early goal and position the ball and play our game and be comfortable.”

The team will arrive back in country on Tuesday.
