Mark King Says Some U.D.P Candidates are Not Fitting of “Honorable”

Mark King

And while Mark King thinks it is too early to tell who will win that race, he says he has a problem with the quality of the candidates that the U.D.P has fielded. According to King, the party needs a lot of shaking up because several persons running don’t make for the honourable title.  Here’s how he puts it.

Mark King, Member of U.D.P

“The U.D.P. does need a lot of shaking up, especially where the ethics committee is concerned. I am extremely concerned about the party having persons to run for leadership in terms of and even for party members, in terms of those candidates not being properly screened, so to speak.”

Andrea Polanco

“When you say properly screened are you talking about there being persons with maybe criminal connections to their background – what exactly?”

Mark King

“No. I mean, when you just joined the U.D.P., you can’t have a scratch past the ethics committee on your police record. I am talking about them having woman beaters; people who have been named in murder scandal; people who have been in a criminal jail in the U.S. and deported, so that is the kind of candidates the U.D.P. is fielding now. So, my fight continues with the U.D.P. to pull back their ethics committee together to say who you are going to put in office. For example, if you put somebody in office who has been in jail in the U.S. and deported to Belize, how does that look internationally on us when that person enters the national assembly. In the national assembly you are supposed to be an honorable person. I can’t done commit the crime and you could tell me I could join the party because I done spend mi time. No. You are no longer honorable.  So, that can be a challenge for the U.D.P.”
