“So that’s what our website provides, you have all the information there and you can get it. But we do want to collaborate with MHA; Kim Simplis Barrow has been a big help for us. We have the Ministry of Health who we want to work with so we all want to come together because in Belize, we don’t have a proper resource centre where the mental health can go. They are sent to jail where eventually they may die or they are just dismissed. So we need to really put that in.”

“Mental health, people immediately think a mental illness. And it is not only about getting there; what about not getting there and how about working on it before then. But I think stress levels are higher than ever, the demands as a society are higher than ever and we are seeing it manifesting—not only more mental conditions and like you said, it doesn’t have to be an illness. We are also seeing it manifest itself in physical ailments.  So more than ever, people are getting more aware than ever that wait a minute, my stress levels, the quality of my relationships, how much time I spend on a phone and how much I work affects me on a daily basis without having to be diagnosed with something. So I think if we start to talk and because we are small, we don’t want to be vulnerable and I get that; it’s hard. But we need to talk.  If we don’t talk, we are not going to start to understand this. But I think when that happens more and more people will get on board. We have to take care of ourselves.”
