No Conclusive Findings in B.T.L. G.S.T. Audit as Yet

An audit by the General Sales Tax Department of B.T.L.’s accounts is yet to be concluded and there is no way of knowing when it will be.  A throve of leaked documents months shows that Belize Telemedia Limited purportedly owes the Government millions of dollars in G.S.T.  According to the documents, the debt dates back to 2012 and by 2017 the amount ballooned to twenty twenty-nine point three million dollars. With the interest rate of eighteen percent per annum the debt reportedly stands at some fifty point one million dollars. B.T.L has refuted the reports, saying that it owes no G.S.T.  A few days after the story broke on News Five, the resignation of Rochus Schreiber as C.E.O. was announced. The post was taken up by Ivan Tesecum who maintains that B.T.L. does not owe any G.S.T. tax.

“Again, where we are at right now is that there continues to be an audit. That is where we are at. It is only an audit and there has been no conclusive findings.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Any timeline in terms when the audit will be concluded?”

Ivan Tesecum

“No I don’t know.”

“Does Digi, B.T.L. still stand that it does not owe any GST taxes?”

Ivan Tesecum

“Of course, we still maintain that we do not owe any taxes. In terms of the figures and income we have business units that do these transactions together and I believe that was what you are referring to but at the end of the day B.T.L. still maintain that we do not owe any GST.”
