Tracy Panton: “Some will win…some won’t make the central executive team”

Tracy Panton

Both Faber and Saldivar have taken to social media to bolster their candidacy. Faber for some time was seen as the person being groomed to be the next leader of the U.D.P., but now Saldivar is claimed to have the support of twenty-three standard bearers, including the son and sister of Party Leader Dean Barrow.  Political pundits say that the united front that the U.D.P. has boasted has been shattered and the contenders are showing their colours going into the convention. While she did not concede to infighting, Minister Tracy Panton says that following the convention in February, the bad blood must be set aside in order to win the general elections whenever it is called in 2020.

Tracy Panton, U.D.P. Minister

“I think we’ve always anticipated that there would be a contest for the next leader of the United Democratic Party; there was no anticipation that there wouldn’t be. And so that’s part of our democracy. I think that the fact that in every position on the central executive, you have more than one candidate offering themselves to be considered, speaks of the robust democracy of the United Democratic Party and we understand fully well that some of us will win and there are some of us who won’t make the central executive team, but they will have an important role in the winning of the next election. And I think that the healing, if you will, will be a very short term because we are very focused on the work that we want to continue doing for the people of Belize.”
