Will Belizean Sugar Be Exported to Taiwan?

Tracy Panton

While CARICOM is natural trading partner, Minister Panton says that Belize is looking at other opportunities outside of the CARICOM region to export the Belizean produced sugar. A delegation is on the return from Taiwan where a series of meetings took place with Belize’s Trade Negotiating Team and initial reports are that an economic cooperation agreement will soon be established between both countries.

Tracy Panton, Minister of State, Investment, Trade & Commerce

“We are in the process of negotiating an Economic Cooperation Agreement with Taiwan and a big part of the ask from Belize is market access for our sugar. My reports are that negotiations went extremely well; I will be briefed obviously as soon as the team arrives. But I feel that we will have, after the negotiations are over, we will have a market access for sugar so we are very pleased about that.”
