Four Persons Injured in Weekend Shooting in the City

In the city, four persons, including a nineteen-year-old female, were shot and injured over the weekend. Gunshots rang out on Friday night on Neal Pen Road where Lemar Lamb and Daniel Lopez were injured when they came under fire from a gunman.  Then on Saturday night, Alrick Smith and Alidia Morey were targeted in the Port Loyola area.  The shootings remain under investigation. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Four persons were injured in Belize City over the weekend in unrelated shooting incidents. On Friday night, twenty-two-year-old Lemar Lamb and twenty-one-year-old Daniel Lopez were in front of a residence on Neal Pen Road when they came under gunfire by someone who followed them to that address.

“At the time, around seven o’clock, we were watching the TV, but only the gunshot mek we come out and witness the shooting, right.  And when Lemar get shot, Lemar was sitting right at the sidewalk and when he get shot he run behind my house and jump di fence so that he could get help.  Well while Daniel mi di come, wahn white vehicle mi di ride behind he and di vehicle gaan and ih stop down the street and di young man come out ah ih vehicle and staat to fire shot.”

 

As many as five shots were fired in their direction, injuring both Lamb and Lopez.

“On Friday, November 8th, 2019, police responded to a shooting incident on Neal Pen Road where a report was received that two persons had been shot.  They visited the K.H.M.H. where they found Lemar Lamb and Daniel Lopez with gunshot injuries.  They were admitted to the K.H.M.H. in stable condition.  Investigation reveals that they were hanging out when a male person came and fired shots at them.”

 

According to Lamb’s foster mother, who asks to remain anonymous, the incident was frightening, particularly since Lamb, a father of two, is an easygoing individual.

“That was so sad fu hyah dat, fi sih dat di young man dehn get shot at this neighborhood because this neighborhood no have dehn incident like that, right.  Soh, I woulda wahn justice woulda come out fi dis because Lemar dah noh wahn person weh trouble somebody.  Lemar da wahn cool guy.  If dehn people dehn even have dehn beef out ya, make sure dehn ketch di correct somebody, not innocent people.”

 

Elsewhere in Belize City on Saturday night, thirty-three-year-old Alrick Smith and nineteen-year-old Alidia Morey were also targeted by a lone gunman in the Port Loyola neighborhood.

“On Saturday, November 9th, 2019 around 7:30 p.m., police responded to a shooting incident on Curl Thompson Street in Belize City.  Information was received that Alrick Smith and Alidia Morey arrived at the K.H.M.H. with gunshot injuries.  Investigation reveals that they were on Curl Thompson Street heading to a car when a male person came and fired several shots at them They were treated at the K.H.M.H. and thereafter released.”

 

Police are investigating both incidents and are yet to establish motives for the respective shootings. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
