Father Alleges that His Baby was Injured while in Human Services Custody

Kevin Arnold Senior alleges that his seven-month-old baby boy was injured while in the custody of the Human Services Department. According to Arnold, the boy and his two-year-old sister were removed from the family home in Belize City because the Department found their living arrangements to be unfit. Arnold claims that the children were taken on September ninth and placed in a home at a location unknown to him.  He says that a little over a week later, he learnt that his child had been seriously injured by a blow to the head and that it has caused damage to the eye and brain. The father says that he is desperate for more answers about his child’s condition but the Human Services has not been forthcoming with responses. We note that these are allegations made by the father and so we reached out the Human Services this evening, but were told that the director and all other senior personnel who would be able to provide a response are out of office. Here’s what the father shared about the incident.

“While we get the visitation the twentieth of September, we visited the kids and after that visitation finished we asked for a visitation after the twentieth. And after that they told us, ‘emergency, emergency’ and to meet them at the Cleopatra Whyte. I met my baby in a state that he looked like he got hit in the head with a metal object and the eye like it’s messed up.   The doctor explained that the baby got hit with a solid object and he is totally what you would call brain damaged, next to die. After the twentieth we went to see the baby and his head get very large and the baby head go up and down and up and down. The only thing I would like is an x-ray and a doctor’s report.   I saw the baby last week and the little girl wasn’t in too good of a state. She had a black and blue hit on her head and a blue one on her temple too. She also has a lot of sores on her feet and a runny nose.  I don’t know what is the mishandling that happened at the shelter, but nobody wants to give us no answer.”

We’ll follow up with the Human Services Department on Wednesday.
