Saldivar Boasts Support of 23 U.D.P. Standard Bearers Including Vega and Finnegan

John Saldivar

The next leader of the United Democratic Party will be chosen by five hundred and sixty delegates. Of that figure, four hundred and ninety-six delegates are chosen from all thirty-one constituencies. The remaining voters are comprised of U.D.P. municipal members and members of the party’s central executive against Belmopan Area Representative John Saldivar says he enjoys the support of twenty-three U.D.P. standard bearers including Gaspar Vega who re-emerge to show his support for Saldivar on Sunday and that of Michael Finnegan whose grand entrance was very much welcomed by the Saldivar camp.  The U.D.P.’s list of delegates has yet to be released but constituency leaders have until the end of the year to submit names.

“We know that the U.D.P. is not necessarily for democracy without a guided element.”

John Saldivar, Candidate, Leader, U.D.P.

“Some of the constituencies have already released their delegates, their delegates list so we are certainly contacting them. Remember that we also have thirty two delegates from the town boards. We also have another twenty one or so from the central executive who we already know. And so we will target those and if you are close with the constituencies as I am with their leaders I am sure that I have a good idea of who will be the delegates going in to February.”

“The Prime Minister’s son and his sister/successor are here, can we then conclude that the Prime Minister supports you?”

John Saldivar

“I think you have asked him that question already and he has answered it and he has decided who he will vote for and he will not make it public so I will not attempt to do that.”

“With this showing would you say that Faber is done for in terms of the leadership bid?”

John Saldivar

“Minister Faber is a formidable opponent. We certainly cannot take out eyes off him. He brings good quality to this party. He is equally deserving as myself to be the leader of this party and so it will be left to the delegates. We are both out there campaigning for the next three months but we will see what the results will be. I am very encourage by today’s outcome.”

Reporter

“You have Gaspar Vega on you flyer of the twenty one is he coming back as a standard bearer for the next election?”

John Saldivar

“That is not what he is saying. That is saying that he as an area representative and the person controlling the Orange Walk north constituency he is on my team.”

Reporter

“Talk to us about division whenever all this is done on February nine 2020.”

John Saldivar

“I don’t expect to be, maybe the minimal level of fallout. Honourable Faber and myself have been friends for almost two decades. While it is healthy contest somebody has to win and we are done we will pick up the pieces and lead our party to victory in 2020.”
