Aaron Baptist

A father of one, Aaron Baptist was gunned down inside a music studio early on Sunday night in Burrell Boom. Another person was inside the building, but the spray of bullets hit Baptist, killing him immediately. Baptist is well-known in the village, but the motive for his murder is not and is under investigation. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Just before eight o’clock on Sunday night a man was shot and killed inside a house in Burrell Boom Village. Aaron Baptist was inside this bungalow house off the main road, where he would frequent to record music. He was there along with another person when a gunman approached the house and opened fire, hitting Baptist multiple times on the back.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Police were called to the home of one Lindel Williams in Burrell Boom Village where upon arrival, they observed the motionless body of a male person later identified as Aaron Baptist, twenty-seven years of a Burrell Boom Village address, with apparent gunshot injuries lying on the floor motionless and apparently dead. What the police know so far is that Williams along with Baptist were inside the building listening to music when someone entered from the back of the building and apparently just pushed his hand through some hole in the door and fired several shots resulting in the fatal injury to Aaron Baptist.”

Family members say that scenes of crime personnel arrived hours after and that the body of their loved one was removed sometime after one a.m., almost five hours after the shooting. The twenty-seven-year-old father of one was recently elected in June of this year as a village councillor. According to his family, he lived a humble life and had beef with no one. So do police have a motive for this homicide?

“At this point in time, no we don’t.”

Andrea Polanco

“Is there anything to indicate if there is any beef boiling in that community? Anything at all of that nature?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Well as far as we know, no because there were no incidents of this nature prior to the shooting last night.”

As to the other person inside the house at the time of the shooting, he escaped unscathed.

Andrea Polanco

“At this time are we able to say whether Baptist was the intended target or that other person?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this point, we don’t know because he too had to have taken cover during the shooting.”

A post-mortem on the body of Baptist concludes that he died as a result of traumatic asphyxiation due to trachea injuries from gunshot wounds. Duane Moody for News Five.
