Alfonso Noble, Guilty of Causing Death by Careless Conduct

“It was Christmas Eve, it was raining and it was very dark. That section between miles three and four on George Price Highway is a problematic area. it has seen multiple accidents, multiple instances of people losing their lives in that area and I think it is something that needs to be addressed, post haste. Under raining conditions, dark at night, the gentleman was riding a bicycle, black shirt, black pants and he is of very dark complexion as well. What can I say? An accident waiting to happen; it happened and it happened to me unfortunately. It is something that needs to be borne by all drivers who find themselves in these situations where they are met with circumstances beyond their control, it is unavoidable and it happens. It has happened on multiple occasions and unfortunately it will continue to happen because we are not equipped. Our roadways don’t have the necessary fixtures to ensure that there is safety in particular for drivers and pedestrians to be on a lane for themselves; to ensure that they are not victims of these types of things. Again, I simply would want to express my condolences and deepest regrets to the family members, to those people who have been wronged by them having lost their loved ones. It is something that I will continue to live with for the rest of my life.”

Noble was represented by attorney Herbert Panton while Crown Counsel Riis Cattouse represented the Crown.
