EXPO Taiwan 2019 Returns

EXPO Taiwan 2019 kicked off today at the showroom at the Caribbean Tyres. More than ten businesses from Taiwan are exhibiting their products for three days, starting today. The event opened with an official ceremony this evening followed by the expo showcasing tech, exercise, jewelry and other products. Both Belize and Taiwan are hopeful that this expo will bring bigger trade opportunities for both countries. Here’s more from the event.

Remus Li-Kuo Chen, Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize

“We have this expo Taiwan 2019 to showcase very good, high quality Taiwanese products to be used and enjoyed by our friends in Belize. Because when we talk about exchange visits and trade, there are ten companies from Taiwan who want to showcase their quality products such as kitchenware, office supplies and also jewelry and scissors. We have high tech products such as smart watches and exercise products and many other kinds. So, we are here to show our friends that through this three day expo they can actually enjoy this wonderful trade relationship with Taiwan. We hope that through the efforts of our governments and people, we are now engaging with each other pursuing the Economic Cooperation Agreement which is to further enhance our trade ties, for example, reducing the tariffs and try to remove the barriers and hurdles in terms of how we do our business for our two countries and two peoples. In case there is any conclusion of the first round or last round of negotiation, perhaps we can have Belizean products and Taiwanese products enjoyed by our people. There will be the opportunity to increase trade volume on two sides; meaning it will earn you foreign exchange, earning the opportunity to create more jobs for the people. Having more trade and more events like this is an opportunity to better off each other potentials and I believe that after this and many other efforts that we have already been engaged with our counter parts here, there will be a lot of opportunities for Belize and Taiwain in terms of our business relationship and trade relationship.”

Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs

“What we have been having since the advent of Ambassador of Remus Chen is an acceleration of activity between Taiwan and Belize which are specifically geared at enhancing the economic performance of the country. We have this expo of products made in Taiwan; hopefully it will be exported to Belize and sold in Belize. So, we are really excited by this stepping up of relationship between our two countries.  We are just being told by the representative responsible for the infrastructure program going from Corozal to Sarteneja that they hope to employ as many as a thousand people on that project. That will come in very well for people in the Corozal area who have been having difficulty obtaining employment.   So, we are very excited about what is happening between Belize and Taiwan.”
