P.U.P. Demands Answers from M.O.H.

The People’s United Party is reacting to our report on the shortage of anti-retroviral medication used to treat patients living with HIV/AIDS.   The P.U.P. expresses concern over the unavailability of the life-saving meds, blaming the incompetence of the Ministry of Health for the shortage. The P.U.P. has learnt that patients are being turned back due to the lack of medication at public health facilities, exposing them to life threatening risks. In a release this afternoon, the P.U.P. also addresses the issue of the importation of generic medications into the local market as opposed to meds approved by the U.S. F.D.A.  The P.U.P. states that an independent preliminary investigation has revealed that there are containers of quality medication purchased by reputable local pharmacies from credible manufacturers held up for months by the ministry, while inferior medication provided by ‘new’ companies with allegedly high-level ministerial connections are released immediately.  The P.U.P. also alleges that there is corruption and complicity at the highest levels of the ministry and says it will continue to investigate.
