Tracy Panton for U.D.P. Deputy Leader

Tracy Panton

While in the U.D.P., Albert Area Representative and Minister of State in the Ministry of Investment, Trade, Commerce and Economic Development, Tracy Taegar-Panton is running for Deputy Party Leader of the United Democratic Party.  The first time area representative made the announcement today that she has informed Pearl Stuart, the Secretary General of the U.D.P. that she is offering herself for the position of First Deputy Leader of the U.D.P. at the party’s National Convention in February 2020.  So far, only Taegar-Panton has declared her intentions to vie for the first deputy post.  She told the media that while no one else had offered to run, there may be others who are interested. In the interview with the press, the Albert Area Rep said that she received encouragement and she truly wants to see more women represented in politics.

Tracy Panton, Area Rep, Albert Division

“I have advised the Secretary General this morning that I have decided to run for the position of first deputy leader of the United Democratic Party at our national convention which is scheduled for February of 2020.”

“Ma’am what motivated you to run for deputy party leader?”

Tracy Panton

“There are a lot of things that have inspired me, particularly the work that I am now doing in the Albert Constituency and the fact that there is an urgent need for the voices of women and our young people to be heard at the very highest level of governance in this country. If you look at the statistics there are more women registered to vote in this country than there are our male counterparts. In addition to that, when you look at the profile of the voter, sixty percent of women actually come out to vote and we represent fifty percent of the Belizean population. We need to come to the table in a meaningful way. I pledge to the women and the young people of the U.D.P. and this country, to be an advocate to the issues that concern them and that need to be addressed at the highest level of government.”
