Two persons also perished in the south in traffic accidents. An elderly man lost his life on Friday night in the Stann Creek District when he was knocked down off his bicycle near Pomona Village.  Eighty-year-old Samuel King was struck by a vehicle driven by John Castillo who reportedly attempted to swerve out of King’s way.  Notwithstanding the attempt, the vehicle collided into King causing extensive injuries to his body.  Not too far away, police recovered the badly damaged bicycle.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“On Friday last, sometime around 7:30 p.m., Dangriga police were called to an area in Pomona Village, whereupon arrival they saw the body of a male person on the right hand side of the road when heading towards Dangriga and he was later identified as Samuel King, eighty-year-old, and somewhere not too far away from the body was a bicycle with extensive damage.  What police learned so far is that one John Castillo of a Dangriga address was driving his black Toyota car towards the direction of Dangriga when upon him reaching Pomona Village a male person suddenly swerved onto the highway and as a result, he swerved to the left in order not to hit the person and then the person turned back into his lane, resulting in the accident.  He was detained, a statement was recorded from him and he was served with a notice of intended prosecution pending the outcome of the investigation.”
