Stephan Jenkins Gets 17 Years for Manslaughter Guilty Plea; Co-Accused Awaiting Trial

Stephan Jenkins

After spending almost seven years in jail, today twenty-six-year-old Stephan Jenkins pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter of fifty-four-year old Dennis Williams. On November eighth, 2012, Williams was shot and killed at his workplace, Three Stars Quality Chicken, located on Vernon Street.  Justice of the Supreme Court, Marilyn Williams, sentenced Jenkins to seventeen years in jail.  In November of 2018, the case against Jenkins and co-accused, Ashton Thompson, was called up and while Jenkins pleaded guilty to the lesser charge, Thompson stood firm and pleaded not guilty to murder and remains on remand awaiting trial.  Justice Williams is yet to give her ruling in writing as to how she came about with the seventeen-year sentence imposed on Jenkins. There was no migration plea heard and no victim impact assessment provided in court. At the time of the killing, Williams was at work at Three Stars Quality Chicken when four men attempted to rob the business. Williams fought with one of the armed robbers, but in the end, was fatally shot. Only Jenkins and Thomson were apprehended. Police had also recovered a nine-millimetre pistol loaded with three live rounds of ammunition, which is believed to be the murder weapon.  Jenkins was represented by attorney Adler Waight of Barrow and Williams Law Firm.
