“Today, we witnessed the signing of the upgrading of the Corozal/Sarteneja Road to paving standard.  This road will include the replacement of two bridges, one at Pueblo Nuevo and the other one at Laguna Seca.  It is approximately forty-three point two kilometers or twenty-seven miles.  This road is very important because it will create opportunities in agriculture and in tourism.  It will open windows of opportunity and also it will create employment for the people of the area and more importantly it is the people that will use it.  The teachers, the farmers and the students who commute to Corozal on a daily basis and also it will take about five years to complete and it is a win-win situation for the people and country of Belize.  So I would like to thank the Government of Taiwan for offering this loan and for the company that will construct it.  It is Engineering Construction Company Limited of Taiwan who has a wide range of experience working in the Caribbean and Central America.”
