Godwin Hulse Comments on Joshua Perdomo $40K Loan Write-off

Joshua Perdomo

The Perdomo loan write-off is not going to go away in time soon. Today, U.D.P. Senator for Government Business Godwin Hulse says that the forty thousand dollar loan does not mean it is uncollectible. Perdomo is employed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science, which is located in Dallas, Texas. He was to return to Belize on a three-year bond after being granted study leave to attain a master’s degree in Forensic Genetics at the University of North Texas. The government decided to write-off the loan, because the PM said Perdomo could not be located. Hulse was asked to comment on the matter; he contributed a long and confound response.

“Sir are you able to confirm that the Joshua Perdomo loan has been officially written off, that the documents have been signed and it is done?”

Godwin Hulse

“I don’t know about a loan. I don’t know write-offs and I don’t know about documents. Let me tell you what I know, I was told in Cabinet and by all the experts that Joshua Perdomo was paid eighty percent of his salary while he went to study. That happens to a lot of people. The normal thing is that they don’t pay it back. It is not like a loan that they pay back. They continue to work and they get their salary and even increments because they are now better trade. So that is the situation. I can speak for the Cabinet of Belize that I sit in and from I have been sitting in the Cabinet in Belize this issue never ever came up and there was no detail discussion of Mr. Perdomo. As far as I am concern even within my ministry I would not have known that. That would have been the accounting officer and the other technical people would have been dealing with those matters.”

“So it didn’t go to Cabinet, you are saying?”

Godwin Hulse

“No, no. When the write-off, those things are discussed but the write off motion is already on chain. There is nothing you can do to turn that back. If you wanted to say that it was a special thing then what government could have done is pull back the write off motion so the public would not have known and just leave it there. They didn’t. When it came from whatever ministry it came from the Cabinet just left it there. I am saying that during the process of owing the money it was never brought to Cabinet or discussed that Mr. Perdomo’s son owes and we should crowfoot. None of that came up so I as a minister never knew that and I don’t think any of my other colleagues.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Should the Ministry of National Security have gone after the guarantor?”

Godwin Hulse

“I would have thought so. You try to collect any monies owed to the government, I can’t answer for them.”
