No Injection of Cash in CGA says Agriculture Minister

Godwin Hulse

Since we had caught up with Minister of Agriculture Godwin Hulse, we asked him about meetings have been held with representatives of the CGA. On Friday, Hulse along with his C.E.O., the Prime Minister, and the Financial Secretary held talks with the CGA to discus eight concessions that can lift the industry from its current malaise.   Hulse made it quite clear today that the Government will not be injecting capital in the CGA.

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Agriculture

“As far as I understand it the large Citrus Mutual people don’t have any major issues. The small citrus people are the people with the issues but their issue stems from the fact that their association is in dire straits. CGA owes a lot of money. It is in the verge of bankruptcy, if not already bankrupt. It needs to restructure urgently, downsize and offer the services to the small farmers that they can such as providing fuel, tractor services, insuring that they get the work permit for the seasonal workers. That is about it that they can be doing right now. They don’t have the wherewithal to do anything else. The bigger farmers are running well. What we in the ministry would like to see is to unite the industry and bring them together as one industry.”

Hipolito Novelo

“At what point does the government assist financially?”

Godwin Hulse

“Well it depends what assist financially with. I mean duty free fuel that is a financial assistance for sure. But actually if you talk about injecting cash in there that is not going to happen.”
