Godwin Hulse

The rains are here but the effects of the drought that devastated crops over several weeks are still being felt. The prolonged drought caused losses in the millions for farmers across the country. The government is committed to financially assist farmers, providing alleviation so that they can bounce back. Farmers will be afforded low-interest loans but the Ministry is having challenging is formalizing a list of farmers. Minister of Agriculture Godwin Hulse says that the list needs to clean from persons who are not truly farmers.

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Agriculture

“We got our first two hundred thousand dollars finally from the banks. That is available to us. As I speak Jose Alpuche my C.E.O. is in Washington finalizing the World Bank’s issue so I can’t comment on that right now. He has to brief me sometime this evening or tomorrow. We are moving quite a pace. One of the things we didn’t know is that we wanted to finalize sugar and as you heard we had sugar with not all the farmers registered. We are trying to finalize that so we can say this is the package and these are the farmers and anybody who is not on the list is left off. When we were looking at the list of all the farmers that we had registered there were a few farmers, eighty, across the country that there were issues whether they were in fact real farmers or not farmers, associate farmers or adjunct farmers as we call it. We need to clean that too so when that list goes out there we don’t have people coming saying that they were overlooked. So that was the delayed us a little bit.”
