Belama Phase Four Land Remains Unresolved

Orson “OJ” Elrington

The dispute between several families and businessman Alex Chang over six acres of land in Belama Phase Four, Belize City,  remains unresolved. Chang through attorney Brandon Usher of Williams Law Firm filed legal action against eight families whom Chang says are illegally occupying his land. The dispute commenced in January of this year when Chang served several of the families with notice of eviction. While some of the family relocated, others remained. Before the legal action, mediation was attempted among both parties with the help of politicians, the U.D.P.’s Freetown Standard Bearer Orson “OJ” Elrington and Area Representative Francis Fonseca.  After mediation fell apart, Elrington says he stepped back to leave both parties to settle the matter on their own.

“I have no idea. As you know in the last instance I tried to intervene on behalf of the residents. When they refused the assistance then I decided that I will step back from the position so I have not followed up on it after it. It is between two private parties and I was trying to act as a mediator between them. When one of the parties refused that mediation then I decided that I would step away and it is for the two private parties for them to deal with that.”

“They remain on the land however though?”

“Some of them stayed, some of them moved. Again, it is different persons so some remained and some moved.”
