S.I. on Transportation is Revised

Michael Peyrefitte

According to AG Peyrefitte, the statutory instrument has since been amended to reflect additional changes.  The revised S.I., he says, has been forwarded to Transport Minister Edmond Castro.

Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General

“The bus owners have graciously, in a meeting on Tuesday we had with all sides, they said, “Listen, we appreciate fully the effect that it is having on the hotels in Belize.”  And in conversations they have had between Tuesday just passed and a couple months ago, they agreed that they would allow for charters to come into the country by foreign buses; however, once the buses are here in Belize they would then have to use local transportation to get within Belize. So those two changes to the current situation had to be reflected in the current SI.  Immediately, the AG’s ministry went into drafting mode and we have drafted the amendments and today we sent those amendments along with the past SI and the current one to the Minister of Transport for him to sign.  So what we have done is that we will be repealing the old SI, bringing back most of it with this addition so you will only have one SI reflecting the changes that we agreed to on Tuesday.  So that is what is going on now and we are grateful that we can come to some sort of agreement.”
