Lionel Kelly is Freed of 2016 Murder

Lionel Kelly

Alleged murder suspect Lionel Kelly, walked free on Tuesday after his attorney Simeon Sampson, made a no case submission which was upheld by Justice Colin Williams. The Justice agreed that the crown could not prove the charge of murder against Kelly. The Mayflower resident was charged for the July six, 2016 murder of twenty-year-old Tevin Palmer, who was executed on Castle Street in broad daylight. Palmer was shot as many as five times and succumbed at the K.H.M.H.   Prosecutor in the case, Porsha Staine-Ferguson tried to get Palmer’s brother to cooperate and tell the court what he told police after the murder. But on the stand, Peral Palmer could not remember or recall anything about the day in question and claimed he never gave police any statement in the shooting of his brother.  Staine-Ferguson asked the court’s permission to call the police to confirm the statement, but that was denied. In the end, all Palmer would say is that his brother died from a gunshot injury three years ago. But in a 2016 statement to the police, he reportedly gave a detailed account calling names of persons involved, including Kelly, but in trial he was not forthcoming. The trial, by judge without jury, began last week before Justice Colin Williams.
