Uproar as Belmopan CitCo De-reserves Land Designate for Phillip Goldson Boulevard

A hasty land transaction that appears questionable to many in Belmopan is raising eyebrows and causing outrage. A few weeks ago the Belmopan City Council gave the order to de-reserve a large portion of land along the Phillip Goldson Boulevard. The land was reserved for expansion of the boulevard but the council decided to survey and divide the land into twenty eight residential lots. But as soon as that was completed, the lots were sold off to new owners for a paltry sum. The price tag for one of the residential lots is one thousand dollars. In fact, the transaction from application to title was done in a flash and took only one day. The new land owners were recommended by the Belmopan City Council. Residents of the area are upset with Mayor Khalid Belisle for doing away with the expansion of the boulevard. They are asking him to share details on how many city council lands have been issued out and to whom. The mayor was unavailable for comment today. He is also facing questions in respect of the Hilltop property of the Public Service Union which was sold off to Simplex Designs Limited. The P.S.U. this week said it is heading to court to challenge the sale.
