Lionel Longsworth Takes the Rap for Gun Charge

Lionel Longsworth

Tonight, three of four men linked to a gun found in a parked vehicle are home free after twenty-three-year-old Lionel Longsworth took the rap for the firearm and ammo. Harold Usher, Dane Gillett and Jeffery Buller were along with Longsworth when the gun was intercepted on the night of January second, 2019 on Cran Street in Belize City.  The G.S.U. officers came up empty-handed in a first search, but during another search of the vehicle at the Queen Street Police Station, they found a nine-millimetre pistol and thirteen rounds stowed inside the compartment. Police believe they prevented a murder from occurring when they made the bust. Representing the four accused men was attorney Ronell Gonzalez, who asked the court for leniency for Longsworth’s first conviction and for the fact that that he did not waste the court’s time when he pleaded guilty.  Magistrate Emmerson Banner imposed a total of seven thousand dollars in fines. The magistrate also ordered Longsworth to pay the three thousand five hundred dollars by November thirty-first, 2019 and the balance by December thirty-first, 2019 or in default, he will spend three years behind bars on each count. On the night of the gun bust, police say they were investigating the possibility that the same vehicle was involved in a shooting near Wax House on New Year’s Night.
