“As usual at out AGM’s a highlight is always the election of new officers and directors. Our members always look out for that and some of them postulate and would want to see them elected. Another highlight is the keynote address. We try to have a keynote address every year, and this year we will be graced with the presence of Dr. Tenny Topalion, who is the Secretary General of the Belize National Commission for UNESCO. She will be talking about UNESCO and specifically the World Heritage Site Convention. In Belize we have our very own, very important World Heritage Site, and that’s the Belize barrier reef system. That site is comprised seven marine reserves, of which Audubon manage two, the Blue Hole and the Half Moon Caye Natural Monument. So there are issues centering around these marine reserves presently, with the fishermen having certain concerns and the tourism stakeholders having other, and Dr. Topalion will have the opportunity to address some of these concerns especially as they relate to the World Heritage Site Convention.”

Members are reminded to pay their dues in order to be eligible to vote. The meeting begins at 7:30.
