P.S.U. Says it’s Fighting for “What Rightly Belongs to Us”

Gerald Henry

Henry says that the P.S.U. has hired the services of Courtenay Coye LLP and the documents should be filed before October thirty-first. He says that the union will not vacate the property because that would mean that they are giving it up.

Gerald Henry, President, P.S.U.

“I believe that this week the legal team supposed to file our case in the courts and certainly that will be before the thirtieth and we also have the fact that the caution is still on the property. We are going forward from those angles. We didn’t close the door completely simply because we got the mandate from them the last time.  So we are moving forward with that and so far we are getting food responses from our membership that they want to see the union fight for what rightly belongs to us. The advice is that we should not move because moving would essentially mean that we are accepting the fact that we are giving up on the property and we don’t have that option right now because we do have interest in the property, if nothing else we have equitable interest base on all the improvements we have made over the years. So there is no way we are going to move out from the property simply based on a letter from a lawyer.”

Now, Henry did not disclose the critical piece of evidence he claims he has, but reports that the former Mayor of Belmopan, Simeon Lopez, gifted the property to the then President of the P.S.U. surfaced today. Lopez, however, denied these claims saying he did no such thing. In fact, Lopez says he does not recall who the P.S.U. president was during his tenure.  If proof can be produced that he did gave the property to the P.S.U., Lopez says he will retract his words and accept the assertion.
