2 Belize City Men Plead Guilty to Burglary

Marlon Young

Two maintenance workers caught on surveillance camera were sent to jail after they pleaded guilty to the burglary of a warehouse on Queen Street, Belize City. Sometime between last Thursday and Friday they trespassed the warehouse of D-Sprout located on Queen Street and stole an assortment of boys’ and girls’ scandals and a bucket of paint; all to a value of four thousand eight hundred dollars. This morning, Marlon Young and Reagan Amed Gomez appeared before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson and were jointly read a single charge of burglary.

After they pleaded guilty they begged the court for leniency but after due consideration by the magistrate, they were both sent to prison.    In the case of Young, a repeat offender with four previous convictions for crimes of dishonesty, he was sentenced to seven years.  Gomez, a first time offender with no previous conviction, was sentenced to three years imprisonment.   The length of the prison term was due to the prevalence of the crime which has been on the rise in Belize.
